2021 Switch On
The 2021 Switch On, due to Covid-19 the concert and official Switch-On will be held in the newly refurbished Blackpool Tower Ballroom. There will be FREE 1000 tickets split equally between local residents and visitors.
The Switch On celebrity has been announced, it's one of the worlds most acomplished dancers - Shirley Ballas. Shirley is currently the head judge on BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing and has an impressive career in both ballroom dancing, with multiple wins at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom plus becoming a dance coach and judge for ballroom and Latin American competitions across the world.

While the BBC show Strictly Come Dancing won't be coming to Blackpool in 2021, the shows head judge Shirley Ballas will have the honour of switching on the extended 2021 Blackpool Illuminations.For the second time in over 70 years, due to Covid, Blackpool will be unable to hold the traditional Switch On with an audience of 20,000 on the Tower Headland. The concert will be replaced by a free to access streamed show in association with MTV.
The streamed hour long concert, which featured a mixture of exclusive pre-recorded, at home performances, as well as live performances at a closed event, filmed inside the world famous Blackpool Tower Ballroom, acting as the curtain raiser for the extended Blackpool Illuminations season, which will run from 3th September to 3rd January 2022.
The 2020 virtual show started at 8.30pm. It was free to watch on MTV and through Visit Blackpool's channels and featured a mixture of exclusive pre-recorded performances at home and live performances filmed inside the Blackpool Tower Ballroom
In 2020 the virtual crowd was wowed by performances from Fleur East, Becky Hill, Tom Grennan.
The 2020 Switch On performers were: Mel C, Diversity performing a bespoke set. Performances from Fleur East, Becky Hill, Tom Grennan and Blackpool's own Rae Morris.
